An exciting opportunity has arisen for VAT Assistant to join us at St Modwen.

The role

• Prepare, review and submit VAT returns
• Assist with VAT registrations in UK and later across various jurisdictions
• Manage and assist with VAT compliance queries
• Review month-end VAT account reconciliations
• Provide internal and external audit support, including data analysis
• Liaise with, and deal with VAT compliance and audit enquiries from HMRC
• Support with CIS return reviews
• Manage day to day HMRC correspondence
• Ad hoc tax admin tasks and cross functional support
• Liaise with other departments in order to efficiently and effectively complete tasks
• Be a team player and actively develop relationships across the finance team
• Maintain knowledge and adhere to relevant Group Policies and Procedures, Legislation and Regulations
• Develop and ensure safe working practices Work towards:
• The opportunity to develop VAT knowledge
• Provide support to and partner with colleagues throughout the business and, in particular, accounting groups
• Participate in cross-functional projects
• Map VAT processes and identify areas for improvement
• Support business growth and on-boarding of new companies and entities

The Candidate

• Experience of working in VAT role in either HMRC, practice or industry
• Ability to work using own initiative
• An aptitude for problem solving
• Willingness to implement process/efficiency improvements
• Good working knowledge of Excel
• Confident working with large volumes of data and undertaking data analysis
• Excellent written and oral communication Desirable
• Willingness to pursue a qualification or part qualified (either ATT, CTA, ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA or equivalent)
• Willingness/eagerness to be involved with and develop experience in other tax areas in the future
